Yes, the Clinton years were a time of economic downturn and socialist communism(?). And who cares if candidates don't talk about their positions on policy issues, as long as they keep calling Hillary a lesbian bitch?

God help us all if these people decide the election.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2007-10-25

Well they are called 29% 'ers for a reason.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2007-10-25

24%, now.

Roachbud - 2007-10-25

The good thing is all of these people will be "gnashing their teeth in the lake of fire" for at least 2008 to 2016.

Screwtape - 2007-10-25

Feyd - 2007-10-25

This is not a focus group, these are fucking scripted lines. Fucking ass motherfucking fuckfuck, this is really execrable.

Aubrey McFate - 2007-10-25

"I think he can get the job done, he just didn't sell it well."

IrishWhiskey - 2007-10-25

That really makes it worse. Not only are there people who think like this, but Fox News WANTS more people to think like this, by pretending its a dial group survey, when really its prescreened people who are fed lines ahead of time. They are misleading viewers and manipulating polling to support their own radical political agenda, and still call themselves a "News" channel.

Xenocide - 2007-10-25

The good news is that the reason they have to resort to this is because these people are now on the fringes of the political spectrum. The fact that 76% of the country disapproves of Bush while Hillary is looking more and more inevitable by the day just shows that Fox News' tactics don't work anymore. There was a time when they were winning converts for the GOP, now all they're doing is appeasing a small niche of cranky old righties. They're not quite irrelevant yet, but they're getting closer all the time.

Having said that, it still scares me that all these people will probably vote.

Billy Buttsex - 2007-10-25

Hillary's inevitable? Uh... no.

baleen - 2007-10-26

I love Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and Ann Coulter. The reason I love them is because inevitably when these people get power they fuck everything up. Rush Limbaugh arguably won the Democrats two seats in the Senate because he couldn't keep his fat junkie mouth shut.

I hope they continue to give us fodder.

Xenocide - 2007-10-26

Billy: No one said Hillary was inevitable. I said she LOOKED inevitable, which is a big difference. The appearance of inevitability can be a big asset for a candidate, but it's not the same as actually being a lock.

Billings - 2007-10-26

I actually don't think this is scripted. Luntz makes an excellent living holding focus groups that make his clients look good. These people may be cherry picked, they may have been coached, I have no idea. I seriously doubt that Luntz actually fed them lines, though, because that would put his public credibility at more serious risk.

Jeff Fries - 2008-05-15

Rupert this is the RNC, we need you to round up some people with downs to articulate our views.

joyofdiscord - 2007-10-25

The pre-debate focus group in the related videos titled "Ron Paul is certifiably insane" is even more astounding. These people just have the most severely defective understanding of the American political dynamics.

Highlights: "We need a Republican who will finally stand up to these Democrats. The Democrats do whatever they want and the Republicans just say 'mimimi, OK." HUH?!?! Are we talking about the same Democratic party that spends more time on passing resolutions to apologize for things other people said than oh, substantively challenging the Iraq War.

"They're pandering to the center." (Are we talking about the same "race to the extreme right/Double Guantanamo" pre-primary debates here?!)

this was, amazingly, even more ridiculous than i had anticipated.

cognitivedissonance - 2007-10-25

Proof that Republicans aren't human beings like the rest of us.

glasseye - 2007-10-25

God damn republicans. Grar! Angry!

futurebot - 2007-10-25

"Nobody wants to revisit history..."

That pause was particularly pregnant when you note that by "revisit" he meant something like "learn from".

Aubrey McFate - 2007-10-25

3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Today, we have an economic downturn, a horrible war, a deficit and Fergie.

Aubrey McFate - 2007-10-25

Meant for Xenocide, oops

Xenocide - 2007-10-25

"I think people have very long memories about Bill Clinton and what it was like to live through that hell."

Sir, please elaborate. No, seriously, PLEASE elaborate. I need to hear more about this nightmarish regime, as I was apparentally too distracted by the economic boom and the lack of wars to notice.

This focus group is so white, it's gotta be right!

Billy Buttsex - 2007-10-25

Don't forget the surplus and Limp Bizkit!

Billy Buttsex - 2007-10-25

I am torn.

I can't stand Hillary because she's an obnoxious liberal feminist, and I think Fox News is the devil because... it's the devil. Do I rate this 5 stars because Hillary's getting bashed? Or do I rate this one star because it's Fox News doing a "focus group" on their "news channel?"

DECISIONS DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!

3 stars

fatatty - 2007-10-26

Yes, please never return us to the hell of a stable dollar, a budget surplus and less than 100,000 American soldiers fighting and dying to secure resources in the middle east. If only we could get back to the glory days of a Cold War and nuclear standoff with Russia. Putin, we need ya buddy.

bang to buck ratio - 2007-10-26

I especially like the ones who can barely assemble the words in their prewritten lines, as if they have learned them phonetically.

Scynne - 2007-10-26

I seriously want to know why Fox News is still around.

bowie - 2007-10-26

It is only camera quality and motion graphic budget that separates fox news from the crazy, overweight, white guy on each of our local public access channels.
And concentration of pure evil. You can't even buy that.

Ahriman the Creepy Lurker - 2007-10-26

I wish I could believe those lines were spoonfed to the focus group, but I think they really are just that dumb.

Princess v2.1 - 2007-10-27

One day we'll be a nation of fat retards....

oh.

FABIO2 - 2007-11-28

Every time I hear about how everyone wants a leader who gives nothing but strong, decisive answers, I think of this ironic little cartoon.

http://www.poetv.com/video.php?vid=21103

The reason you get a lot of wishy washy answers in debates is because a lot of the time the questions are the worst kind of loaded bullshit imaginable ("Which do you think is more important: security OR human rights?") outside of a beauty pageant. Another reason is that you can't break down a complex real life problem and its complex, working solution into a fucking 30 second digestible television sound byte.

As long as you tell your bullshit CONVINCINGLY and DECISIVELY enough, these people will buy it I guess.

Chalkdust - 2007-12-08

Man, it even seemed like the focus panel guy couldn't believe what he was hearing.
