I loved this movie as a teenager, but whenever I watch it now I can't shake the feeling that I'm watching some gay 19th century SCA reenactment, only with a budget and LOUD MUSAK.

Keep in mind that the movie is about 5 hours long and was marketed to an older audience. The loud music is there so grandpa will wake up for the important parts. I've seen it in action.
