Pretty thorough explanation, BUT:

An independent creator retains copyright of his/her work for the same monetary reasons as a company. So he should have probably adressed the volumes upon volumes of legalese defining work for hire and its evils/battles (see Atari, Joe Seigel and Jerry Shuster, Bill Finger, etc.) instead of leaving this as the overly simplified tiff it is.
Goddamnit, Professor, quit playing with cartoons and get back to work!
Didn't you go to college? This is exactly the crap that they get paid for. Damn I want thier job.

They get paid for finding an innovative way to educate people about their particular area of research and sometimes further their field of study? Those horrible liberal layabouts!
