I have a CD someone from Starbucks gave me of the music from this special. It has Charlie Brown and the gang, and a big 'ol Starbucks logo on it... ("Have yourself, a very corporate Christmas") ... I was like "meh ok thanks"... and put it away for a few years, still shrinkwrapped.

One year I happened to think of it, and I busted it out and played it on Christmas morning and it was unbelievably perfect. It made Christmas feel like when I was a kid again. Whoever did the music for this is a damn genius. For reals. 5 stars for that alone. Another 5 stars for awesome childhood nostalgia.

Grab this CD before Christmas, and put it on while you're unwrapping gifts. Make everyone cocoa for mega bonus points.

When I was a wee tyke, elementary school, Vince Guaraldi came to my school and did a performance of the Charlie Brown Christmas music. I had no idea who he was at the time, but I enjoyed it. When I finally figured out who it was, in my late teens, I realized I had witnessed something truly beautiful.

I was asked to do a small radio show about Christmas in a mid-size Japanese city a couple weeks ago. They asked me to bring in some music, so I played several tracks off the album. It really is the only Christmas music I can tolerate these days.

As close to a perfect Christmas special as you're ever likely to see. To me this forms a holy trinity of Christmas specials with Mickey's Christmas Carol and Chuck Jones' Grinch, which get watched each year at my house.
