Man, where to start.
1. When I saw this cartoon as a kid, damn the animal abuse was disturbing to me. Also, the horse salting the grass made me think that grass must taste really good.
2. The whole whipping-treadmill turnabout is weirdly unsettling now, especially with Betty and Grampy looking down at him and laughing.
3. The pool game is a lot messier when human women play it that way.
4. Grampy totally looks like Philippe with a beard.
5. Is Grampy related to Betty at all (which is what I always thought until I saw her into him at the end)? Or is he, like, the village grampa?
6. More Fleischer stuff yes!

snothouse - 2007-12-16 Grampy is related to Betty. After the Hayes morality code was passed, they gave Betty this weird extended family to make her seem less "swingin' single". They also lengthened her dress.
So yeah, it makes the ending creepy.

It seems strangely ironic (or perhaps just fitting) that Betty Boop started out as a dog.
