Billy Buttsex - 2008-02-08
Now, I didn't have time to watch the whole thing because I'm running off to work, but the last time I checked, the culture of protestantism seriously reinforces wealth building. I mean, who're we kidding here? It's not like god's gonna make you rich right off the bat or anything, but just look at the people who follow the protestant path strictly: they're successful white-collars.
I guess in that sense, it's kinda true. But once again, I have to see the whole thing.

Billy Buttsex - 2008-02-08 So you've never heard of the Protestant work-ethic? Those of us who've been raised in good families have it. Sorry, Baleen.

HURF BLURF DUH - 2008-02-08 lol what

my family never cared about anything. they're so catholicky and jewy. lazy and rich. i hate my family.

The Great Hippo - 2008-02-08 history beard tingling
"protestant work ethic" is an anachronism based on calvinists and puritans who saw prosperity as evidence they were among the chosen few who would get to heaven. The term is pretty much meaningless nowadays unless you're talking about a specific sect (like the calvinists).

baleen - 2008-02-08 Don't encourage him.
|
kingarthur - 2008-02-08 Yes because Protestants never made their money off the backs of slave labor, swindling, and genocide of indigenous peoples.

"The Bible teaches people how to generate wealth. Have you ever met a poor Jew? I mean they're pretty hard to find."
These people should really be executed and and stabbed repeatedly and dead kill kill kill. I cannot find enough hateful words to describe how this makes me feel.

"But no sooner had the Soviets left than the Americans arrived."
Heh... from one parasite to the next.
|
baleen - 2008-02-09
Note that the guy who was parasitizing those horse people was actually Australian.
|
SenilePlacebo - 2008-02-09 Was he? I seem to remember that he was from New Zealand, actually. But that is just a nitpick, really. Either way, I get your point. Blind zealots and fanatics are a pandemic.
|
The Great Hippo - 2008-02-09 Yeah, you could totally see the oppressive, parasitic relationship he had with that crippled farmer.

It's true that Buddhism has failed them for whatever reason. What is parasitic is the practice of convincing these people to believe these missionaries have been blessed by God because they are Christian, therefore it is a good idea to go to non-Christian place and not only displace the local Buddhist culture with a very corrupted form of Christianity, but to replace the NATIVE FORM of Christianity that has been there for many centuries.
I realize this stuff has been going on for a long time. Poor people converting to the religion of Empire to improve their lot is an ancient practice, it's just a tragic one.
I am sure these people believe that God saved their sheep, and that smiling kiwi fuck isn't doing anything to help that fact.
