Still the best TV miniseries ever.

Absolutely one of my favourite TV series, bar none. I watched it back just a couple of months ago, and it's still great.

It's kind of like arguing with a woman.
"But you told me not to!"
"But I really wanted you to! You don't really love me!"
Also, 5 stars for old-school insanity.

I wonder if this is what Dubya feels like inside his own mind.

ACTING!
We need the scene where he cuts open his sister's uterus and eats the unborn fetus.
|
|
Valvados - 2008-02-14 I swear I am not making that up. He comes out of the room with blood dripping from his beard and everything and basically tells Claudius the ancient Roman equivalent of "...You really don't wanna go in there right now."

I remember seeing this again on PBS more recently, and they had historians discuss the historical accuracy of all the different scenes, which made it even more awesome.

ANYTHING Caligula is awesome, whether it be Bob Guccione or I, Claudius. There is literally nothing that a little Caligula magic can't improve. It's like the Mrs. Dash of historical drama.

That's not really a monologue, you know
|
The Mothership - 2012-01-20
A recent book has suggested that this episode in Caligula's life was not madness, but a showing of outright mockery and disdain of the Roman Senate. Watch this clip again and imagine that Caligula is mocking the Senate, instead of being crazy; it's a whole new story.

For a modern interpretation of caligula, see Robert California in The Office's recent seasons.
