robotkarateman What's the software? It looks like Impulse Tracker circa 1997. Are people really still using tracker-style mixers?

baleen
ModPlug Tracker, says the guy.

robotkarateman Sorry, I'm just amazed. I made some IT mods back when alt.binaries.sounds.mods was the only way to distribute them, and I played with Cakewalk a little when it came out and messed around with eJay a bit. To my eyes the interface used here looks like a step backwards.

Smellvin "Created using ModPlug Tracker"
You should've watched to the end. :)
|
Udderdude I still use MODs in my games. They're a great balance between MIDI (yuck) and MP3 (not good if you are trying to keep file sizes minimal). MODplug Tracker is by far the easiest and most user friendly MOD Tracker still around.

fluffy The thing I miss most about making music with Impulse Tracker was the ability to load up any arbitrary file and mess around with loop points without a lot of work. I was able to discover all sorts of cool sounds that way. One of my most popular songs from that era is "Return of the Files" where I used a bunch of non-sound files to make the entire song (MS-DOS 6.22's command.com made an excellent drum loop, incidentally).
|
Old_Zircon Fluffy, I'd like to hear that.
tons of people still use trackers. Hell, I'm pretty sure eck and quite few well klnown producers use Littlesound DJ for some stuff.
|
Udderdude As for the actual "song"? Meh.
|
Ersatz Wow, Windows can be used to create banal music. What a world we live in.
|
AdamOfEden i don't understand hating on this video for not liking the song. it's the fact that he used just the sounds from windows that is interesting.
|
Babies Ate My Dingo Awesome. I can appreciate the work that went into that.
|
SolRo It's pretty good
|
Old_Zircon Decent but not spectacular tracker music. Neat concept. The whole thing felt like an intro, though, I klept waiting for the actual song to start.
|
The Great Hippo Am I missing something? Weren't people doing this with video game themes (using only Windows sound files) back on YTMND over a year ago?
Still, I like the song, so 3 stars.

Repomancer The comment is appropriate, as Brian Eno did some of the XP sounds (like the wakeup and shutdown noises).

Enjoy Check this one out too:

Unmerciful Crushing Force Why is this guy trying to make his posts bilingual in Japanese?
Interesting composition though.
|
Big Beef Burritos Supreme Nice sitar effect :)

Pike Designing within constraints.

kanyakumari I like it, but changing the pitch of the tones to create a melody feels like cheating.
