The Archies and their playlist of songs that were rejected by the Monkees are ultimately responsible. Scooby Doo in fact was just a twist on the Archies formula because it added ghosts, which made The Archies seem fairly vanilla.


One could spend a whole week compiling all the various SatAM formulas... the teen rock band formula, the talking dog formula, the based-on-hit-tv-show formula, the based-on-product formula...

Oy, I'm losing IQ points just thinking about it, and I truly feel sorry for the animators who had to work on the production assembly lines.
