Multipart got borked, continue here for good old Jack Thompson crazy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqSCLrtioEI

Quad9Damage - 2008-05-02
It sucks that the second part got cut off. The second that Jack Thompson opened his maw, I turned on my PS2 and took over the last gang territory in "San Andreas". I could barely hear his babble over my murder simulator training session.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-05-02
Ah yes, former alcoholic and drug addict Glenn Beck tells us what's right and wrong
fermun - 2008-05-02
This is why we are losing so many lives in Iraq. It isn't the lack of a coherent plan while simultaneously giving the image of being an anti-muslim country thereby increasing terrorist recruitment; the soldiers just can't find the R2 button.
Caminante Nocturno - 2008-05-02
Glenn Beck thinks that blaming video games for violence is stupid, but thinks that blaming pop culture as a whole is perfectly reasonable.

It's interesting to watch TV news deal with its oncoming obsolescence by doing everything in its power to speed the process up.
SolRo - 2008-05-02
Are you implying that kids always watched conservative douchebags ramble on about the latest "outragous" thing before pop culture and video games came along?

fermun - 2008-05-02
I think he's implying that kids don't use television news networks for their news, and that blaming the pop culture of the youth alienates the few people in that demographic that do watch, thereby speeding up the process of making TV news obsolete.

dancingshadow - 2008-05-02
I'm getting mixed messages here... is killing humans good or bad ?
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-05-02
It's good if you do it for the American government. And it's true that Americans were very bad at fighting at first during both World wars. They had to be acclamated into a fighting culture.

This whole story was all over the place. Does it get coherent at any point?

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-05-31
no but he also says killing other humans is not a "natural instinct". which is interesting, because I didn't know Glenn Beck had a PhD in Human Instinctology

chumbucket - 2008-05-02
wahh wahh wahh violence is bad wahh wahh wahh what about the children?
Dinkin Flicka - 2008-05-02
Nice plug for the game, dumbass. Andis that a Frank Black reference on the end?
chairsforcheap - 2008-06-12
it is. it absolutely is.

Frank Rizzo - 2008-05-02
pop quiz hotshot.

Who's more retarded, Glen Beck or that "fowl language" guy.
Spoonybard - 2008-05-02
Sounds like someone's been reading West Point Psychology Professor Lt Col Dave Grossman's work (all that stuff about military training). I went through his stuff in high school when I did a project on the topic of violence and video games.

It really shouldn't come as any surprise that young children who are exposed to simulated violence are more likely to be comfortable with the real thing than children who have never been exposed to it, and less likely to be comfortable with inflicting violence than children who have been exposed to the real thing. That doesn't change the fact that this game is marketed to college students. The fact that your husband or boyfriend might be beating virtual hookers to death is supposed to be scary? Oh no! The game is training his impressionable adult mind to do it in real life!
Rudy - 2008-05-02
Oh! Here's a krazy konservative on TV screaming about violent video games!
Rudy - 2008-05-02
Also, it's too bad this clip starts after his segment on (surprise!) Jeremiah Wright. I'll bet his take is illuminating.

wtf japan - 2008-05-02
There was a direct correlation between Honeymooners viewership and spousal abuse! Look it up! 50s television destroyed American society.

I love how he looks at his hand to make sure he was holding up the appropriate amount of fingers to to enumerate the words "Grand Theft Auto."
victorm - 2008-05-02
Good question, whatever happened to Pong??

RockBolt - 2008-05-02
What I want to know is that since pressing buttons on a contoller is appearantly effective training for firing guns and shooting down police helicopters, how come I can barely complete an end over end pass I'm real life football after years of kicking ass in Madden?
Stog - 2008-05-02
Because you haven't been playing Madden on the Wii, duh!

StanleyPain - 2008-05-02
Glenn Beck is absolutely appalled at the negative image of women in this game! Absolutely disgusted! And the shocking disregard of life shown there too! He loves women!

Tstyle - 2008-05-02
so ALL of pop culture is to blame for the moral decay of society?

Do the neo-con wackaloons even hear how in line they are with the likes of the Taliban?
Billy Buttsex - 2008-05-02
ENFORCING MORAL IS FOR THE TALIBAN

LET'S ALL GO TO A CHILD-MOLESTING PARADE NOW

Camonk - 2008-05-02
That sounds like an AWESOME parade!

Wait, I mean, it sounds--it sounds bad. That's--that's what you want us to say, right?

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2008-05-03
I'd think a child-molesting parade would be a complete logistical nightmare

IrishWhiskey - 2009-11-12
Hey what happened? You guys never showed up! Now I've got 0 of leftover punch, sugar cookies, and lube.

Cleaner82 - 2008-05-02
As I understood it, the aim of this clip is to make us aware that video games have been training children to kill Germans since the first world war, a statement I wholeheartedly agree with.
caged ant - 2008-05-02
I agree with his thesis that "we are training our kids to be killers, and we are training our sons to treat women like whores"; to say that pop culture "causes" a decaying pop culture doesn't exactly follow.
Beck is clearly a moral cockatiel, but Grand Theft Auto can clearly intensify latent tendencies and distort a healthier view of the world. Or be harmless.
But it didn't sell tens of millions of copies to "college students".
Caminante Nocturno - 2008-05-02
You seem to be making your point almost as coherently as Glenn did his.

AgentOrange - 2008-05-02
Are you kind of stupid?

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-05-02
YOU CAN CUT PEOPLE IN HALF? How do I do that?
delicatessen - 2008-05-02
Equip the knife, then press B REALLY HARD.

citrusmirakel - 2008-05-02
"When television was introduced in the 1950's, the homicide rate doubled."

Fucking... wow. Just wow.
Xenocide - 2008-05-02
So it's been six years since GTA III, and they still can't shut up about killing the hooker. What's especially amazing is that picking up hookers has always been a hidden feature: you have to drive to just the right area and then sit in your car doing nothing for a while, which is something most players aren't inclined to do, so it's tough to stumble upon it by accident.

If it weren't for the media's hysteria over this incredibly minor feature, the vast majority of GTA players wouldn't even know you COULD pick up hookers, let alone kill them. I sure as hell didn't until I heard some Fox News sock puppet chattering about it back in the day.
Stopheles - 2008-05-04
My brother put it beautifully around the release of "Vice City":

"Anybody who freaks out about being able to kill hookers has obviously not actually played the game long enough to get to do much, much worse things."

Jeff Fries - 2008-05-02
You worthless faggots, he apologizes right there in the beginning. He wants your love and understanding and all you can do is spit on him and wave you game boxes around in his face like prom kids with champagne. Who cares if his position is tired, so is criticizing the president but that never seems to get old.
Camonk - 2008-05-02
And what these kids call music today--it's all just noise!

Also, I mean, to be a trained killer. That's a very reasonable offer.
sliggy - 2008-05-03
Killing each other is something that doesn't come naturally to humans? Is he listening to the words coming out of his mouth?

Also, "Your son (pause) or your husband or your boyfriend or whoever..."

I'm so glad Glenn Beck is here to explain to me and all the other ladyfolk what these "video" "games" are all about. Gee gosh golly without a man to explain such things I'd be so very lost!

Maggot Brain - 2008-05-03
Kids in school are having sex?OMGOMGOMOGMOGMOMGOMGOMG!
Terminal Button - 2008-05-04
no, look, it's not about kids in high school having sex. Everybody knows that happens. It's about depicting it on television, which, I guess, apparently gives teenagers the sense that it's ok to have sex when you're in high school, which they apparently need our secret approval for, which they are now getting all thanks to it being on tv. the only thing worse would be if they were teaching kids how to do it (safely) in school.

also, it's not about the fact that people kill whores. Everybody knows that happens. It's about depicting it in video games, which, I guess, apparently gives teenagers the sense that it's ok to kill hookers when they rip you off, which apparently someone actually has to point out to them, which is now happening thanks to video games. the only thing worse would be if they were teaching kids how to do it (safely) in school.

Testicles of Doom - 2008-05-04
Jesus Christ. When did it become the 50s again?

When I was a kid, my Mom would always reinforce that the things in movies and music were fantasy and should not be repeated.

We need to tag team a responsible adult to every child in America (since apparently parents don't talk to their children anymore) and have them tell the kid "You know that killing hookers and blowing up cop cars is wrong, right?"

Then everything will be ok.
Old_Zircon - 2009-03-14
It became the 50s again somewhere around 1981

CornOnTheCabre - 2008-05-31
Can someone tell me which channel I can tune into to watch children having sex?
Pie Boy - 2008-07-17
So my school newspaper got a phone interview with Jack Thompson recently, and he said this:

"Islam is the Grand Theft Auto of religion."

I am entirely serious.
j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-07-23
Jack should stop trying to convince GTA fans to convert. That sounds like a selling point for Islam to me.

King of Balls - 2008-09-27
Niko's a pretty reasonable guy compared to the protagonists of the previous games.
Geoff Marr - 2008-12-01
There's no chainsaws in GTA4. Fuck you Glenn Beck
imairlax - 2009-01-30
DIE GLENN BECK
tamago - 2009-05-20
What about the Glenn Beck?

Chalkdust - 2009-07-29
Shouldn't it be DER Glenn Beck? Or possibly DAS Glenn Beck?

...

What is the gender of a Glenn Beck?

joelkazoo - 2009-04-19
"Video Games teach our young children to treat women like objects."

You say that like it's a BAD thing, Glenn! :P

RockStar Games is BRITISH! Can someone show me skyrocketing crime stats in Britain since the intro of the GTA franchise?

I'm waiting.
