it's sad really, i used to read Cerebus back when he and Deni were still married, before he started slipping over the edge into misogynistic derangement. He and gerhard were an amazing team and everything up to jakas story (or even ricks story) is pretty good but then it all went to hell. Less art and more ranting, till it was almost all ranting. It was good while it lasted though, too bad he couldnt keep it up for 300 issues. Church and State is still one of the best things ever in indie comics though.

DrVital - 2008-05-05

I agree totally. It's a shame.

I looked at this book in the comic store the other day and it seemed to be everything that drove me away from Cerebus with none of the good stuff left.

Sim can draw if he wants to. I wonder why he's chosen not to?

Stopheles - 2008-05-05

Because WOMEN (aka THE VOID) aren't worthy of him actually drawing them, you SOCIALIST CATHOLIC MARXIST FEMINIST!!

Mike Tyson?! - 2008-05-05

So seriously, he just traces it?

JamesRobertSmith - 2011-01-27

Apparently that's what he does now. I reckon with Gerhard having divorced him that's all he can do.

kthorjensen - 2008-05-05

This is going to be a graphic novel in the multiple hundreds of pages. Bitch be crazy.

baleen - 2008-05-05

I use a pencil. I have to sharpen the pencil.
I try not to hurt the paper. If I don't push hard the pencil doesn't make enough pencil mark. In order to go downstairs I have to use the stairs. If I walk too fast I will fall down the stairs. If I walk too slow I get lost, or bored.

Menudo con queso - 2008-05-05

I like the idea that dog-earing a page so you can find it later is a technique worthy of explication.

baleen - 2008-05-06

I think it is. What would happen if you didn't know where your page was?
See? You may advanced but some people aren't.

King of Balls - 2008-05-05

He looks exactly like Cerebus.

JamesRobertSmith - 2011-08-28

Except that his hands are all wrinkly and shit because he's like, so OLD now. The girly models aren't interested in his old wrinkly ass. That may be the root of his problem.

Stopheles - 2008-05-05

The eyes really ARE the toughest part for schizophrenics to convey via tracings of fashion photography.

JamesRobertSmith - 2011-01-26

The guy's certifiable.

kingarthur - 2008-05-05

God, I love comics. If for nothing else than for being the refuge of people so talented they're certifiably crazy. My short list: Dave Sim, Robert Crumb, Harvey Pekar, Grant Morrison, Christopher Priest.

Also, I cannot wait to read this. I got this really perverse mental boner at the idea of Dave "women are nothing but an endless void" Sim writing a comic about the fashion industry as soon as I read about it.

Also, yeah it's tracing, but it's still getting the art done. At least he doesn't go the route of, say, Greg Land and trace porno magazines.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-05-06

How could you possibly leave Alan Moore out of that list? Grant's pretty insane, but Alan has a magical cave under his house and spent sixteen years writing three limited-edition watercolor hardbacks about Wendy from Peter Pan banging Alice and Dorothy.

Big Name Celebrity - 2008-08-26

My question was how you managed to include R. Crumb on that otherwise august list....

Billings - 2008-05-05

Well now I know what voiceover to slap on top of my Tool knock-off metal band's debut instrumental song

GravidWithHate - 2008-05-05

"The eyes are the toughest part of the face... the eyes are the toughest part of the face... they eyes are the toughest part of the face... they eyes really are the toughest part"

Yeah... I think that'd work for you.

Screwtape - 2008-05-05

Dave has to trace. Back when he began, he chose to draw the cartoonish turtle instead of the realistic pirate. That damn test pigeonholes the most talented among us.

Chalkdust - 2008-05-05

Five stars for that comment

oh and also the video, JEEZ

Random - 2008-05-06

Is he trying to make himself look crazy? The monotone voice, him staring at the Al Williamson drawing, the camera panning over a close-up of his eyes, EVERYTHING he says. He's so crazy that he doesn't even seem human anymore. He seems like a malfunctioning android. Poor fucker.

Bort - 2008-08-26

Five stars for "malfunctioning android".

JamesRobertSmith - 2011-01-26

It's not just that he's as loopy as a shark in a tub of blood...it's that he's also totally and completely full of shit.

And I'll never get this whole "talent" thing that people stick on him. He's not very good. He draws a half-assed funny animal figure and can't write worth a good goddamn.

Sudan no1 - 2008-05-06

I'm not normally a copyright fag, but wouldn't the photographer, model, and fashion designer be a little upset this wacko is using their image to earn nerd money? Jesus.

Corman's Inferno - 2008-05-06

Oh Dave. Dave, Dave, Dave.

"The face is always the toughest part of the figure. It takes a few whacks with a shovel for it to crumple."

kelpfoot - 2008-05-06

The eyes really are the hardest part. I have to press hard, just like Al Williamson. I have to make her pretty. I have to make her sexy. Like you, Mother.

Al Williamson demands nothing less. I ink spontaneously, almost carelessly. I ink all over her, Mother.

Al Williamson is angry with me. Please don't put me back in the box, Mother.
