i'm starting to think that lovecraft will never be properly turned into cinema, with the possible exception of the lovecraft historical societies stuff.
The way it's filmed makes it look like a daytime soap. What I hate most about it is it perfectly illustrates the trend that film students go for that makes their horror ultimately laughable and that is attempting special effects. They don't enhance the story, and a film is scarier when you have the element of the unknown. Add a bunch of CGI moving clouds or purple rays shooting out of someone's hands and you have the makings of a great LARP battle to share amongst friends. If they left that shit out and just utilized what they had, they could have done something with it. Sam Raimi made Evil Dead with practically nothing. If they would tone down the film and make is less complicated than they are attempting here, it wouldn't be as bad.
