Because it was noticed in "Boom Crash Bang", a great moment in the history of Accidents & Explosions, and a very bad moment in the life of one poor Foton M-1 satellite.

Personally, I'd like to find the rocket launch whose countdown culminated in the capsule ejecting and drifting away on a parachute.

Fuckin' 'ell about covers it. That is wild.

I want to be on an ESA team. :(

And no, silly British man, everyone did not run "miles". You went about ten feet.

Desidiosus - 2008-07-27

Thanks Syd.

I was going to bump off a star for the Blair Witch part at the end, but then we got the classic line, "Everyone's just lying on the ground shitting themselves."

"Something blew up!"

YA THINK?

"A long string of successful Soyuz launches was broken on October 15, 2002 when the unmanned Soyuz U launch of the Photon-M satellite from Plesetsk fell back near the launch pad and exploded 29 seconds after lift-off. One person from the ground crew was killed and eight injured."

Fookinell indeed.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-27

That was undoubtably a hell of a final ten seconds for that unlucky crew member.

RockBolt - 2008-07-27

"Yeaaah, whooo..... FUKIN HELL!"

That thing went off like an a-bomb

IIRC, all but 2 of its engines failed and shut down, so it had an almost full load of fuel and oxygen when it came back down.
