No disrespect to Ms. Hynde, but her legacy would have been complete had she retired in '84. There were a LOT of alto/contralto rock vocalists around in those years, and what made the Pretenders special was the best rhythm section in rock at the time...
I'll post "Tatooed Love Boys" for the other side of the coin.
