godot - 2008-10-21
The lineup of 2 basses, violin, and vocals was very leftfield at their debut - well before Japanese noisecore and American post-rock.
HL recorded for Brian Eno's label. Michael Stipe produced their first album, "Drum". In return, Hugo Largo produced "Swollen", by Hetch Hetchy - Stipe's sisters band. It sounds like the third HL album.
Bassist Tim Sommer was an MTV VJ, and later discovered Hootie & the Blowfish as a A&R agent. Violinist Hawn Rowe became an producer/associate of Glenn Branca, Foetus, Swans, Moby, David Byrne and REM. Vocalist Mimi Goese flits about with the above and Hector Zazou, but apparently mostly does performance art.
Now that I've improved your network for 6 degrees of Bacon (or whomever), go see the other 3 vids for this concert. This is the only extant video I've seen anywhere of Hugo Largo, and I've been looking for 20 years now.
I'm chuffed.
