Yes and no. This scene is pretty darn close to the events in the book; if anything, Jessica is more confident in the film. She did, however, jump on the messianic bandwagon pretty quickly, since it was the only way to ensure her own survival and that of her son.

It was clear that Leto treated the Fremen staff differently from the Harkonnens, but Jessica was the one who spearheaded the effort.
