Did I miss the part where they outline all the horrible DRM-like shit?

Screwtape - 2008-11-08

And lower quality, lower resolution, amount of landfill, etc. This actually bankrupted Circuit City and I cheered when it happened.

BHWW - 2008-11-08

So did I. The backlash against DIVX was glorious to behold.

Stog - 2008-11-08

Holy fuck, DIVX was a shitty, shitty idea.

Wait - this was in 2000, right? So is the current bankrupting related to this, or did they just have two bankruptings in one decade?

Either way, Circuit City is fucking horrible.

DIVX was so bad it took forever for people to start using the DivX video format because of the similarity in names (which I think was intentional for some reason).

Only 350 bucks! What a bargain!

Also, is this a black guy, or a white guy with a bad tan, or just some generic minority? It's really hard to tell. He could be any number of different races. He's pan-racial.

Reminds me of the abandoned red husk of a Circuit City near my house.

All that aside, there is nothing about this video that makes it worth watching.

They fail to mention how you have to have your DIVX player hooked into a phone jack and have credit card information stored on it. What really hit DIVX harder than just people realizing how stupid it was, was when people found out that the parent company/operators of the DIVX system were accessing personal information stored inside the player (including credit card information) for unexplained reasons. INterestingly, when that got out, the big consumer backlash started (and by that point, DVD was rentable and so on)
