I honestly don't see how this could be construed as racist in any way. Said watermelon-eaters were not "dark skinned" at all. And since when do black people have the monopoly on watermelon-eating? I grew up in the whitest of white towns, and EVERYBODY, young, old, rich, poor, ate watermelon. And fried chicken. Big deal!
