I can't recommend enough Ronson's books "THEM: Adventures with Extremists" (which includes this story as a chapter) and "The Men Who Stare At Goats".

I sat and watched a three hour or so lecture by Icke on public access one time years ago. (well, not so much "sat and watched", had it on in the background) I wanted to give the guy an honest chance, so I said to myself "Ok, you keep talking about how if only people will listen." so I listened.

After the initial layer of reasonable criticism of various world power structures and such, he goes into a conspiracy theory so ridiculous and labyrinthine that I don't think any skeptical or critical person could even follow his threads of logic. I was astounded with how complex and off-topic it eventually got. That lecture, and the additional material that followed it convinced me, personally, that David Icke is insane. Perhaps well intentioned, but insane nonetheless.

Those protesters are the lamest people. David Icke discredits himself so effectively whenever he talks about lizards, what do they think they can add to the pile? They remind me of 4channers trolling Scientologists- going after soft targets for sport so they can feel good about themselves, when there are far more important issues out there they could be devoting themselves to. They come off as a weak bunch of bullies.
