Burlesque women, at least nowadays, really seem to enjoy what they do. Strippers not so much. Still, I really hate the Bettie Page Look that rockabilly girls seem set on. it's dumb.

Its a fine look, but not everyone has the face to pull it off. Someday I need to investigate modern burlesque: a) it really isn't developed in my town b) it was too easy to write it off as attention seeking when I was younger, and c) I'd look awful in a corset.

I don't picture Betty Page with trashy tattoos and a beer gut.

It's that the smile reaches her eyes. You can look her right in the eyes and you don't see shame or the dead emptiness of a world weary stripper, just life.

I was probably 14 when I first saw a pinup photo of Betty and I'll always remember that moment. Not because she was the kind of girl that made you think about sex, but because she was the kind of girl that made you think about love. Let me tell you, it takes alot to make a 14 year old boy look past tits and into eyes and that's exactly what I did.

I agree that her appeal is that her smile goes to her eyes and her face in general really. Just look at the beginning of the routine, she's adorable. I've always been impressed by her talent to take something like Burlesque/Striptease and make it feel like she's just having the greatest time doing it. She isn't the first burlesque dancer/pinup model I saw when I was younger, but she's always been one of the best. I'm sorry to hear she passed, she was a real class act.

I never got the Monroe appeal. Betty at least seemed like she was having fun. Monroe was an attention whore through and through.
