I just played through this game again.
I always screw up and take too long having fun, then the Kor ah start murdering everyone and I get too depressed to keep playing. I'm sort of Utwigian in that regard.

RomancingTrain
The Utwig and the Shophixti were the only ones that weren't helped by the voice acting.

I haven't even played this game and I still found this annoying. Extra stars for "Should I commit myself to a long life of painful self-flagellation", since I thought he said "fellatio" at first.

I always expected these guys to sound like Marvin the Paranoid Android, not a whiny basement-dwelling comic book nerd. I think I'll stick with my fond memories of the DOS version, thanks.

I have tried to get through this game at least three times now. It's great fun but I just take too long. I have pages of notes stashed somewhere but I'm sure when I give it another shot I'll end up starting clean.

SC2 = Gold.
KnowFuture
My computer around the time this game came out didn't have a fancy soundcard or speakers, so this adds a whole new, whiny as hell dimension to it.
pastorofmuppets
I could be wrong but I think the voices were only on the 3do port (I started playing after it was open-sourced, so when I had DOS I didn't have SC2).

fluffy
That is correct. The DOS version had multitracked sampled music (in the Amiga MOD format) but no voice acting at all, aside from the occasional voice sample in the music.

Some of those samples were questionably-legal at best. I remember the Orz song clearly had samples of Scooby-Doo in it, for example.

Uh huh. Fuck it. Fire torpedoes.

Fire everything, then notify Star Fleet to send their home planet coordinates to the Borg.

Man just kill your uncle already. Then your dad's ghost will leave you alone, and you can get on with your life.

Captain Stubing.

Shut up.

God, Utwig ships completely broke the game. You could take on entire fleets of nearly anything with just one. There were only like two ships in the entire game that could beat them.
