oh grandpa...

BHWW - 2008-12-29

And what's with these kids today with their big pants and their crazy music? Are you the lady who brings my medicine? Where's the lady who brings me my medicine?

Nithing - 2008-12-29

And another thing, why is the world so cold and dark these days? What's up with that?

StanleyPain - 2008-12-29

You know, I can't even say anything about Rooney or this video because I am just so fucking entertaining by a box of Corn Flakes with a picture of LeAnn Rimes and the text FREE FLAG on it.

If that isn't more worth of an Andy Rooney monologue, I don't know what is.

pastorofmuppets - 2008-12-29

Probably complaining about the price of bread because he's bought so many computers over the years. Being stupid costs money. Sorry Andy but that's the way it is.

meamlegion - 2008-12-29

80 years on this planet and the man doesn't understand inflation? Yep, journalism ain't what it used to be.

simon666 - 2008-12-29

I'd argue this is probably one of his most right on complaints. The cost of living has increased quite a lot compared to wages, and other forms of compensation: housing; food' gas prices (until late); traffic tickets; movies; restaurants/cafes; clothing. It''s really lame.

I don't know where you live, but where I live k a year is high poverty /lowest middle class.

Wolff explains it here: http://poetv.com/video.php?vid=45846

simon666 - 2008-12-29

Also, if you do watch Wolff allow me to say, while you may have issues with his prescriptions, his analysis is sound.

Doctor Arcane - 2008-12-30

15 cents in 1940 adjusted for inflation is about .50

One has to wonder with more efficient modern farming techniques, massive economy of scale, why some of this crap doesn't get cheaper. Anyone an economist?

On the plus side, Microwaves, TV and the Internet.

Smellvin - 2008-12-30

One of the reasons Corn Flakes cost more is because they spend a buttload more on advertising than they used to. My store-brand Tasty-Os (and Honey-Nut Tasty-Os) are less than .50 a box.

Smellvin - 2008-12-30

Also forgot that oil (and gasoline) is almost definitely more expensive in the US than it was in the '40s. Oil prices count for not only for transportation costs but also fertilizer and probably a few other significant costs that I can't think of off the top of my head.

BOOSH - 2008-12-29

"Remember when they said television would be the end of the motion picture business?"

No Andy, I wasn't alive at that point

Stupid Lisa Garbage Face - 2008-12-29

How is it possible for this old fart to have stayed on tv for that long, and on 60 minutes. The only answer I can come up with is a pact with the devil.

citrusmirakel - 2008-12-29

Actually, Rooney's historically been 60 Minutes' big draw.

He was suspended from the show once for saying ""too much alcohol, too much food, drugs, homosexual unions, cigarettes [are] all known to lead... to premature death." CBS got a bunch of letters from cranky old people, and 60 Minutes' ratings took a severe hit. Rooney got reinstated after a couple of weeks.

CharlesSmith - 2008-12-30

The thing is the people who watch 60 minutes are exactly like him. They sit at home (they can't stand anymore) and say "Yeah! I remember when it was 15 cents! Kids these days!"

Luckily they all have about 12 seconds to live.

FireVampire - 2008-12-30

The loading screen was a Pfizer ad for me. It's possible that Pfizer's using Andy Rooney as a marketing tool.

dr_rock - 2008-12-29

Who the hell is "Andy Rooney"? This is clearly zatojones.

zatojones - 2008-12-30

Remember when Andy Rooney was that annoying little boy down the street? I do!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-12-30

*shakes his cane menacingly*

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-12-30

Look, you only have to be around him on Thanksgiving, and you only have to listen to him at dinner. All I'm asking is that you put up with him for that long.

boba. - 2008-12-30

did anyone watch this closely? did he have a stroke during this clip?

fluffy - 2009-10-18

It was his regularly-scheduled 4:27 PM mini-stroke. Like clockwork, it is.
