Why must you stinking right-wingers make me feel dirty for liking this show? FANTASY. God damn it. It's like every conservative thinks life is a movie for real.

It's beyond me how these people think 24 is real. The only reason Jack Baur gets results is because its a scripted tv show
Cena_mark
There are real men like Jack Bauer who fight the terrorists. But the left won't let them. They can't even throw a Koran in the toilet without getting in trouble. Don't you guys realize that these terrorists you're protecting want to kill you?

Paracelsus
Cena, that puts us in glorious company with the Romans. Who by the way (per Tacitus) knew that it didn't really get good information. As always, your logic is thoroughly peccable.

For bonus points, can you name any occasions in the real world and outside the Jack Bauer S&M fantasy boutique where the use of torture has saved any lives?

Cleaner82
The irony of course is that Bauer only works as a sympathetic character because the things he does ARE outside the rules. If there was some guy going, "We need you to do more torturings Bauer", then he would seem more despicable.

Rodents of Unusual Size
Cena_mark, you know the government actually requested this show to be made in the first place, right? That came out last year.

Oh wait, I'm presuming you read things. Carry on!

Hooper_X
I don't know, man. Guys like this actually make me feel uncomfortable watching 24. I used to really enjoy it, but now it's got this mental THIS IS WHAT NEOCONSERVATIVES ACTUALLY BELIEVE banner at the bottom and it's kind of awkward.

"Oh, look! The neurotic jewish girl is consumed with guilt over violating a terrorist's civil rights! FUCK THAT TERRORIST, THERE'S A WAR ON. The REAL good guys choke that bitch until he talks!"

I mean, I understand that it's a live action cartoon and everything, but some people take that shit way too seriously, and it's creepier than say, slash or whatever because SOME OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE ACTUAL POLITICAL POWER.
Camonk
My sister's fiance adores the show. And he's a smart, liberal guy who hates Bush and torture and the war and all that. It's the craziest thing but there's this niggling worm of doubt in the back of my mind over it, like, Dude you shouldn't like a show that glorifies torture.

FABIO2
The same thing ruined 300 for me.

Well, that and the fact it was boring.

Dutch Oven Fresh Pie
This show is really boring too. I think it is intended to be, since it is 99% filler.

Cleaner82
Haven't really caught it in years, aside from an episode here and there, but I like it. I feel a little dirty being associated with its shitbag audience, but as for the show itself my conscience is clean -- I enjoy all sorts of make-believe depravity. I am make-believe Hitler. Torture is just one fragrant rose in the beautiful bouquet of my make-believe sins.

Dutch Oven Fresh Pie
You can find good episodes of it here and there, but it's obvious when the writers know they are fucked with the task of filling a whole season's order of episodes. There's always some stupid kid Jack has to go out of his way to save from a mountain lion or a bomb or something. This is at the same level of most 80s action shows.

Ryo-Cokey
Jack Bauer is the Torture Mary Sue. It's like watching an acted version of a Freeper's self-insertion fanfic.

Cleaner82
It didn't used to be a torture-centric show. :-(

Bort
Bend Rush Limbaugh's thumb back and I bet you can get him to cough up names too -- however many are required to get you to stop.

As Ben Franklin said, "Those who would sacrifice liberty in the name of security shouldn't watch so much goddamn TV."
Cena_mark
If torture doesn't work people would have stopped using it thousands of years ago.
charmlessman
Uh.

This sentence alone deserves a journalistic response.

Suffice it to say, you're wrong, and most everyone here could drown you in reasons why.

I'm tired and at work, so fuck it.

Corman's Inferno
People didn't stop using it because some of them are cruel, backwards assholes.

Cleaner82
If baiting didn't work Cena_Mark would have stopped using it thousands of years ago.

B. Weed
True. The guy's not even the most amusing of the purple-assed baboons who present here.

Also, I wonder how many Freepers are gonna cry now that the upcoming season might have Bauer reconsider whether his tactics work:

It DOESN'T WORK, the fat guy in Resevoir Dogs said so

Rodents of Unusual Size
You are worse than the rash on Hitler's balls.

Ageusiatic
I'm pretty sure Jesus would have approved of torturing people. I originally thought that as a sarcastic remark, but I'm pretty sure Jesus said it's okay to stone people to death for a myriad of reasons.

Paracelsus
Jumped the freaking shark like what, second season? Your thoughts.

Handy Guide to 24: Always assume a character is evil until proven otherwise.

Corrolary: The United States Federal Government is completely and totally compromised by various shadowy conspiracies. Everyone from your mail carrier to the President of the United States is actually on the take from various and sundry evil forces.

Princess v2.1
Good god, 24 is a stupid comic book fantasy, not masturbation fodder. I guess when you have the intelligence and moral values of a ten year old...
TheDevil'sWhore
This is why I don't have cable.
