Tres cool.

Though I continue to wonder what Kenyans (and others) will think of him in, say, two years. Is it purely pride in him, or are there expectations of the U.S. under Obama somehow "fixing" a horribly dysfunctional Africa?

Nithing - 2009-01-20

I'm guessing they're expecting 'shitloads of aid'.

(A) = "Rome Was Not Built In A Day"
(B) = "The Journey Of One Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step"

(A) + (B) = Hope For A Better Week.

you have to understand that, to people in the Third World, the office of President of the United States is like God-Emperor of Shangri-La.

This is just like when Kennedy was elected, the Irish partied and got drunk for 46 years and counting.

The poem wasn't too bad. I read it again in the Times and it's not too bad. It was intentionally solemn, simple, plain, and easy. I'm not sure what the actual sound was on the Mall, but I was transfixed at the thought of a million people listening to a single poem silently, all at the same time, in the same place. This maybe gave it more meaning than it should have, and it was not as stirring as Angelou's poem, but who cares. We got to hear some crazy Yo Yo Ma neoclassical weirdness at a presidential inauguration.
