Tres cool.

Though I continue to wonder what Kenyans (and others) will think of him in, say, two years. Is it purely pride in him, or are there expectations of the U.S. under Obama somehow "fixing" a horribly dysfunctional Africa?

I'm guessing they're expecting 'shitloads of aid'.

I thought they already had shitloads of... oh, I read that wrong.

you have to understand that, to people in the Third World, the office of President of the United States is like God-Emperor of Shangri-La.

These stars go out to WTF's comment.

This is just like when Kennedy was elected, the Irish partied and got drunk for 46 years and counting.

For good measure they started celebrating several centuries in advance

There should've been more reggae at the inauguration
Muddy Mae Suggins
and less bad poetry.

you are only saying that cause she was black, you racist shit

Jeff Fries
No she wasn't, and it was bad

Helena Handbasket
I had lots of reggae at MY inauguration.. um night.. at work.

Also Parliament.

The poem wasn't too bad. I read it again in the Times and it's not too bad. It was intentionally solemn, simple, plain, and easy. I'm not sure what the actual sound was on the Mall, but I was transfixed at the thought of a million people listening to a single poem silently, all at the same time, in the same place. This maybe gave it more meaning than it should have, and it was not as stirring as Angelou's poem, but who cares. We got to hear some crazy Yo Yo Ma neoclassical weirdness at a presidential inauguration.
