Good point about winter. My mom has a "mostly outdoor" cat and it gets more bowling-ball shaped before the winter and slims up every spring.

Well since an outdoor cat's life expectancy is like half that of an indoor-only cat, you actually are pretty horrible for overfeeding your cat because you're letting him outside, likely to die.

I have two cats. They are littermates, they are both fed the same modest amount of food (half a cup of low fat dry food twice a day). One of them is almost that fat, the other one is not fat at all. Who knows why it happens.

I don't feed my cat and he's fat. Some cats just have sucky metabolisms.

Our barn cat feeds his goddamn self for the most part and he does get a bit plump during winter, or course he spends most of it sleeping in the tack room or trying to burrow into your skin so that is most likely why. During the summer he's a lean mean fighting machine, all muscles and mouse guts.
