why did "psychics" go on randi's show... did they think they would somehow be the first one who gets proven right? You'd think at least one person would have told them before they made the effort: "you know your going to get owned by him, right?"
Because many psychics earnestly believe in their own abilities and think they have a gift for it. For whatever reason, they are convinced of this and cannot be convinced otherwise, so for them, this is not getting "owned", it's making a mistake and being dimissed because of it, but they don't care because they know the truth is that they have these abilities.
Many of these people just have so many mental defenses and barriers set up inside themselves that they do not see right and/or wrong in these situations.
As con-men, they're egotists. They think THEY'LL be the ones to stymie him. Thank god none of them have any accumulated memories of proportional senses of self.
That is ALSO true, but I think in many cases, it is the earnest believers that get exposed in these kinds of cases. Typically the scamming ego cases are the ones who resist and resist until eventually they somehow fuck up and the Randis of the world are there to catch it, or they think they can "best" someone like him and fuck that up too.
