GlennFinito - 2009-04-03 It paints a more reconsilatory picture I think.

GlennFinito - 2009-04-03 It shows how far this particular minority (this label is an ironic can of worms) has gone in regards to public opinion and religeous persecution.
"Why do gays even want to be Christians?"
I think that is the question.
But yeah "liberal pseudo-intellectual apologists"

Xenocide - 2009-04-03 Wow, that formatted all weird. I blame sodomites.
|
GlennFinito - 2009-04-03 GOD HATES XENOCIDE.
Personally, I think some homosexual's want to be accepted as Christian because in some shape or form it is absolution for them and their identity.

manfred - 2009-04-03 If a religion is hostile to your very identity, I don't really see any benefit in embracing it. Why is choosing a religion any different from choosing a political party?
Btw, the SA WAS a source of comfort and a community for millions of people. It also had clear spiritual aspects.
|
GlennFinito - 2009-04-03 Because religion is in most cases is more intrinsically tied to your upbringing than political ideology.
Also, faith is by definition is irrational.

Wait, prostitutes and thieves don't have civil rights?
As messed up as we still are, its a striking reminder of how quickly the national attitude is changing. 40 Years since 2/3 of the country said they felt "fear and disgust" toward homosexuals. 15 years since Buchanan declared a war on homosexuals at the Republican Convention. 5 years since the SC struck down the ban on sodomy.

All of this hatred of homosexuality is so alien to me. Watching things like this is like watching a crime drama or a science fiction allegory for me since I'm so detatched from that mindset or that world. I can watch stuff like this on tv and just take for granted that it doesn't affect people where I live, but it's still horrifying. It's just wicked in a way I can't describe without the childish crutch of framing things in terms of good and evil. I don't mean this as an attack on the non-crazy religious people here, I'm really just trying to convey my perspective, but it's even worse that it's driven by religion. People engage in that sphere of life very accustomed to ignoring reason and logic when forming and evaluating their opinions so it's near impossible to make them see reason. They think they're doing good, and they're literally frightened to consider that they might not be. And I think it really highlights the absurdity when you think about how all these people have decided to hate, what, 10% of the human population in an attempt to please personified weather the proof of whose existence is a translation of a translation of a book written in the bronze age. When you think of the sheer magnitude of that hate it's heartbreaking. How many people buy into the "God Hates Fags" mindset? The number isn't small.
I don't know what the point of this is, these people make me mad in a way I can't really articulate.

Wait. Why is it impossible to be gay and Christian.
|
manfred - 2009-04-03 its not impossible, just very stupid

IrishWhiskey - 2012-11-30 When your book of eternal wisdom calls you an unnatural abomination that should be killed, you've either got to recognize it's not a reliable source and just what people were making up ages ago based on their ignorance and invention, or practice a religion of self-loathing.
You can of course ignore all the bad stuff and pretend only the good stuff is divinely inspired. That just requires some intellectual dishonesty and our old friend, cognitive dissonance.
