ALTERNATE ENDING: The worm and bird have a long, frank discussion about the interconnectedness of their species' existence. Small cakes are served. Unfortunately, that ending was axed by the film's producers as they felt it was too Hollywood.

What did they think they were going to do when they got to the bird. I've said it before and I'll say it again, worms are horrible long-term planners.
