Could this have been averted if they had cameras on the back of the locomotive, or do you suppose someone just screwed up the switch and there was no chance of stopping the train once the mistake was released because the accident happened so close to the switch?
It looks like one of those yards where they assemble cars into trains, with everything being downhill of a certain point and the cars just roll into each other... no engine required. It looks like they just forgot to throw the switch, or put too many cars on the incoming train, and it had too much momentum. Bad brakeman.
