This is great. So, was Munchausen a folk hero or something?

I was only aware of the Gilliam portrayal, but maybe that's because I'm just a barbaric Yank without a Folk Studies degree.

He was a semi-historical figure -- there was a real Prussian officer named Baron Munchhausen in the 1700s, but he became the center of many a tall tale.

By all means, see if you can find the full-length Baron Munchhausen live-action movie made in Germany during WWII. It's surprisingly well-made, and you wouldn't think it was made in a country that was engaged in a life-or-death struggle. Think German "Wizard of Oz".

This IS great, I agree.
Has anyone ever seen another Munchausen cartoon? I remember it vaugely from Early Nickelodeon when they still showed "You Can't Do That On Television" and weird cartoons that no one has ever heard of. I think it was a Munchausen cartoon where he and his cohorts went to the moon and fought/befriended moonmen. I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure all his companions that appear in the Gilliam movie were there too(the fast guy, the guy with strong breath, etc.). Excuse me for being vauge, it's been probably 22 years since I saw it.

Still, this is better and is simply amazing. Some of these made it into the Gilliam movie too, like pulling himself out of the hole by his hair, and his awesome horse.
