Ironic that a deleted scene would become the template for every movie Tim Burton touched after this one.

Huh. Seen this movie enough times to know it forwards and backwards as a kid and don't remember this scene at all.
Like Oogie Boogie's song and dance number from a Nightmare Before Christmas.
Maybe you were watching some TV edit that was cut for time? There's another dream sequence that WAS cut from the film (and shows up as a deleted seen on the disc), but this is definitely in the film.

hmm... i just realized tim burton likes to make movies featuring a manchild. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Edward Scissorhands Ed Wood Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Im not sure if Edward Scissorhands or Ed Wood are menchildren, or just freaks. But Pee Wee's Big Adventure features two MCs so that makes up for it.

Edward's a manchild-robot-zombie-thing, Ed's just a (glorious, wonderful, yet surprisingly mature at times) weirdo.
I think his movie is the reason that scenes like this never gave me nightmares as a kid.

I think this movie had a large hand in ruining clowns for an entire generation of children.
This is what separates the children of the 80's from the children of today. They will never know such wonderful horror and glory.

I finally got around to watching this movie the other day. Oh man why didn't I see it years ago? Apparently, this movie is why WB decided to have Burton direct the 1989 Batman film.
