You won't hear a lot of the guys from the Pacific say that. It seems more like "Even though they were the enemy, they're still white."

I think the fact that the Germans respected the rules of war and didn't cut prisoner's throats as a matter of habit made the guys in the ETO a little more sympathetic than the guys in the PTO

The Japanese were a lot easier to dehumanize. Propaganda said that the Germans were Just Like Us except they'd been brainwashed. Japanese were exotic, and their different code of honor frightened Americans.
