Weird, I meant to submit this:

But I guess this one works just as well.

La Loco
Craigy seem like a dick, he can't be pretending that good.

He wasn't that bad actually, but when compared with Stewart it isn't really possible to have any perspective on it.

I was fucking PISSED when Stewart took over, but I've gotten to like him over time. Kilborn totally was a dick, but it was appropriate for the show at the time.

Ersatz
Jon Stewart was worse than Kilborn for at least a year after the transition. Basically until the writers stopped writing for Kilborn's delivery.
Also, Beth Littleford was the best reporter they ever had, bar none. Anyone who suggests differently is wrong.

I remember the John Stuart Show. Thank God the Daily Show saved John's soul.

Lizz Winstead (born August 5, 1961) is a Minnesota-born comedian who was co-creator of The Daily Show along with Madeleine Smithberg, and served as head writer. In late 1997, the show's host Craig Kilborn told an off-color joke about Winstead in an Esquire interview saying "If I wanted her to blow me, she would"[1] and behind-the-scenes tension led to her leaving the program in early 1998.

I miss Vance DeGeneres.

For the longest time, I had a tape of an episode of the Kilborn-era Daily Show. In the episode, Craig Kilborn made a joke about the failed World Trade Center bombing in '93, saying, in essence "Yeah, like anyone is gonna mind if a couple thousand stock brokers die!"

I held on to that tape for quite a while, waiting for Craig Kilborn to become famous, so that I could ransom it out or just sell it to Inside Edition or something. Of course, eventually I realized Craig Kilborn would never actually become famous.

When the show was like this, it seemed pretty good as a sendup of both news and talk shows. Now, of course Jon Stewart who's legitimately intelligent and can be a huge dick under the radar makes this seem like crap.

But it's important to remember that at first, after the change, it was all, This tiny jew has ruined the Daily Show!

Okay, no, it's not important to remember that at all.

I liked the Kilborn era of the Daily Show
(and Beth Littleford was awesome).
I went to a taping one time, Timothy Dalton
was the guest. There were lots of delays,
Beth Littleford went around giving everyone candy.

The show was a little more mean-spirited back then,
but it was done well, imo. Kilborn said it best on one of the episodes: "If you don't have anything nice to say...send us a resume".

Also, the best Littleford moment was when she was jacking off the pig at the Breeding Insemination clinic, and in disgust yelled "cumshot".

I still have some preemo Kilborn Era Daily Show on tape. Fuckin A. Whitney Brown is a institution.

When I heard Craig Kilborn was leaving the show and being replaced by John Stewart, my first thought was "GOOD!". I was a fan of Stewart from his days hosting Short Attention Span Theater, which never gets mentioned. It's like something Craig Ferguson said to the effect of "Great comedy is about tearing down those in power, not kicking a man when he's down." Stewart tears down people in power, Kilborn kicked people when they were down. Craig Kilborn was, is, and always will be a dick, and I'm always overjoyed when any attempt he makes at a comeback fails miserably (Remember his FOX Sports Show? Me, neither, thank "BOB!"). To paraphrase Chris Morris: "Craiggers, the next time you cross the street, don't look both ways!". Sorry about the rant, but there's something about the man that just makes me want to beat the everliving fuck out of him!
