Yeah, a lot of great stuff came out of these "half hour toy commercials" from the 80's/90's. The licensee didn't care what the writers did so long as they made a show, and every so often, you'd get some pretty subversive comedy or decent writing out of the deal.
Though most was, I suspect, inspired by massive amounts of cocaine.
