Is there any doubt this is right wing terror?

TeenerTot - 2009-06-20

I saw this when it ran.

It makes me terribly angry that these "Christians" can get away with this shit. Hopefully with Obama in charge the laws will actually be enforced to prevent this stuff.

This was very well done. It bothers me just a bit though to think that this service is legal yet quite a number of states won't provide it. Mainly because there legislature is run by religion, and GOD FORBID we have womens rights equal.

Yet I do not ever remember the bible specifically saying don't have an abortion. Now you may argue that chapter six in book twelve, section eight says thou shalt not...

Point is, religions, or religious zelots, and that's what they are should not be making laws. I'm sorry...

And did anyone else catch that last bit, that the Department of Homeland Security stated that they predicted a rise in right wing hate crimes. Christ that is scary. I just wonder how many will try to play that off as the left wing nuts propaganda.

Tiller lost his life because somebody took a bronze-age desert mythology a bit too seriously.

Is religion really worth it? Dawkins, Hitchens etc may be arrogant assholes, but they speak the truth.

voodoo_pork - 2009-06-20

I don't think the problem is Christianity, but the fact that there's a healthy percentage of gun + crazy in America.

memedumpster - 2009-06-20

I don't see the problem being Christianity either, since a Christian is, according to Jesus, someone who loves their neighbor as themself, God with all their heart, and forsakes their material life in service of the poor and downtrodden.

Obviously, Christians are a myth. I have seen more evidence for the existence of a god than the existence of a Christian. I imagine there is probably a far greater probability of a deity existing somewhere in the universe than a christian on earth... or within a gigaparsec of earth.

The problem with that attitude towards Christianity and religion and general is that it ignores the fact that the core of most major religions is not REMOTELY founded on the kinds of values you just cited. This is discussed at length in good books by people like Dawkins, Hitchens, Sam Harris, and of course older, more famous tomes by the likes Bertrand Russell, etc..

People who are outside of deeply religious culture tend to see things like Christianity in a more neutral light. They see the positive messages of the bible and think "hey, a lot of people are ruining that message", but in fact, the actual messages in the bible are not the lovey dovey, peace and tolerance for all that people think it is. At it's core, Christianity was always about violent conversion of the "unfaithful", complete intolerance for those who go against the word of God, and many, many statements about using violence and oppression against your family if necessary to fulfill the will of God.

With perhaps very rare exceptions, religion is founded on a violently anti-human attitude where the actual messages of a truly loving morality are constantly skewed and twisted by a bunch footnotes of "oh, unless of course these 5,000 circumstances come into play..."

In other words, while there may have been truly "good" Christians, it is IN SPITE of their religion that they were good, not because of it.
