Beating a 70 year old man in a debate isn't much of a victory. The problem here is that while Pat Buchanan isn't really wrong. Affirmative Action is obviously flawed, actively denying opportunities to valid candidates due to the color of their skin (affirmative action should really be based on income bracket, though it makes people feel a lot fuzzier when they can "see" the results). I do think affirmative action is necessary, I just wish people wouldn't try to pretend it's somehow fair.

Infamous Not to start an argument but I was under the impression that Maddow was just pointing out some inaccurate statements that Buchanan had made. In this particular video, anyway.
I haven't seen the debate myself but affirmative action isn't exactly a black or white issue. I don't really think that either of them could have "won" it, per se.
