The US may not have cozy pubs but we have plenty of bars where this kinda stuff happens. You have to weigh the merits of 10 cent chicken wings vs maybe getting your ass kicked.

Years ago I once went into a bar called Soupie's in Norwood, Ohio because it looked like a college joint from the outside. I somehow missed the rows of bikes parked by the front door...

So there I was a flimsy goth-looking nerd walking into a bar filled with bikers. Just like in the movies all the conversations stopped and all heads turned towards me. The bartender lady looked absolutely horrified that I was there. I'd obviously made one Hell of a mistake.

Thankfully I am a professional at graciously removing myself from bad situations unscathed. I ordered a vodka on the rocks and finished my drink ignoring all the catcalls, bottlecaps, etc. I smiled to the nice bar lady, gave her a generous tip and got the fuck out of there.
