so is stan lee richer than hefner right now?
kelpfoot - 2009-09-01
Stroking my beard a little bit, if I recall correctly, the reason there was such a long delay between the releases of Spiderman 1 & 2 was that Marvel was trying to dick Stan Lee out of his royalties. Apparently he was entitled to a share of the profits, but his contract had been written in such a way that gross revenues of ~0 million did not count as "profit."

Marvel only caved in and paid him when they realized they needed his permission to release a sequel, and the cost of paying him was less than the billion or so dollars they've probably made from all three movies.

So in other words, I'm betting they're doing everything they can to dick him over.

Ponasty - 2009-09-01
he was interviewed on NPR yesterday and the gist of it was that he had some stock in Marvel and in Disney but that of the 4billion price tag he was not a direct beneficiary. He is by no means the major stock holder.

So fucking horrible...fuck. So evil.
James Woods - 2009-09-01
Although... Disney Digital True 3D fucking rules. I nearly applauded the logo sequence with the crystals before start of Up. This may not be all bad.

Forget DC.

Boom Studios has 'Unthinkable' & 'Irredeemable'.

I can finally learn who would win in a fight: Punisher or Goofy.
Time Travel Mishap - 2009-09-01
It's disney so goofy will help Punisher remember his inner child. then they will go get ice cream.

I started typing that as a joke but then it hit me that that's not that far fetched now and i died a little inside.

Hugo Gorilla - 2009-09-01
I'm counting on seeing a Darkwing Duck/Spider-Ham crossover.

Does this mean that Cable will be in the next Kingdom Hearts? All those zippers would look nice with his pouches and belts.
Riskbreaker - 2009-09-01
Tetsuya Nomura is very very hard right now.

sosage - 2009-09-01
So no Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Thanks corporate fuck shits.
Xenocide - 2009-09-01
MvC3 was never going to happen anyway.

Riskbreaker - 2009-09-01
Now that's a great idea: Magneto, Cable and Akuma vs Mickey, Goofy and Donald

GQ - 2009-09-01
To everyone fearful about this deal: This is basically going to be the same deal as Disney's with Pixar, and Disney will be basically totally hands off on the day to day operations of Marvel.
phalsebob - 2009-09-01
I'm not even that much of a comic geek, and I very much hope so. Recall what happened to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when Archie Comics bought it.

Pillager - 2011-02-13
When Jim Shooter spoke a our LCBS, the subject of the Disney merger came up.

Pro: The trains will run on time.

Con: Squelching creativity is what Disney excels at.

We shall see.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-01
Oh no they're gonna censor X-Force!!! Not my beloved!

You guys know they own ESPN, right? This is just some money changing hands. And oh yeah everything but Vertigo sucks. Carry on.
Toenails - 2009-09-01
Vertigo is own by the Time-Warner conglomerate, which must mean that Vertigo sucks also.

Damn, how does it feel that your opinion has been so fundamentally destroyed by the same logic everyone else is using?

pastorofmuppets - 2009-09-01
I'm just kidding, all comics suck.

Toenails - 2009-09-01
So was I, Vertigo is pretty fucking awesome.

SKY FALLING WORLD ENDING JEWS DID MARVEL!!!!
cognitivedissonance - 2009-09-01
Perfectly reasonable from a business perspective. Disney does not have anything for the young male demographic, try though as they might. Right now, Disney Princesses are outselling Barbie... any trip to Toys R Us will tell you that. By buying Marvel, they now have the brand to fill up the boys half of the store just as dramatically.

The one worry that MIGHT be worth fearing is what happens if Disney's Marvel wants to play hardball with Diamond Distributing, which has the monopoly on comic book distribution. Diamond is itching for a fall (hubris of an epic scale), and when they do, the local comic book shop will be the one that suffers.
Xenocide - 2009-09-01
Disney can't be trusted with Marvel's characters? What do they know about endlessly whoring out characters who are decades past their prime and incredibly played out?

Oh, right.
mashedtater - 2009-09-01
oh dear, that was worth saving my stars for.

fatatty - 2009-09-01
You win.

Toenails - 2009-09-01
Goddammit Xeno, it's like you use some damn "Cantankerous Witty Remark Hack" when making a comment and then rake in the stars.

I'm reporting you to Chet for cheating!
