pretty much what I expected. lots of makeup and digital color correction.
i'm genuinely interested in seeing how bad this film is. all signs point to it being tv movie of the week terrible but judging from this clip maybe the screenplay will manage to keep some of the overwhelming despair of the novel intact.

abeli$con - 2009-09-06 meh i've taught the book so i would imagine i have a different opinion than many of you. plus i am active in the cormac mccarthy "community" (as some of you well know) so i would expect my opinions on this to carry a little weight.
in any case it's a book that i've read more than a few times and it doesn't make for a good film no matter how strong of a director or actor gets behind it.

Sometimes, just sometimes, reading the comments here pays off.

drcrypt - 2009-09-07 In abeli$con's defense, early reviews of this aren't looking good.

I like everything but the music. McCarthy's work doesn't really lend itself to orchestral builds and crescendos. This scene would work much better without the music.

infinite zest - 2009-09-06 I thought Nick Cave was doing the music :(. Unless this IS Nick Cave, in which case :( :(
|
StanleyPain - 2009-09-07 HIm and Warren Ellis are. I'm assuming this might be a temp track. It's not HORRIBLE, I just don't think it fits the mood of the book to have a musical score at all, personally.

I didn't like the book much and when I heard they were making it into a movie, I got even more confused.
Looks like they fixed the dialog a bit though. I remember a lot of:
"You hungry?"
"Yup."
"Here's some soup."
"What's that."
"A gun."
"Oh."
"I hear something."
"Ok."

They say you don't have to outrun cannibals to escape them, you have to outrun the person next to you.
Maybe... he could have shot the cannibal, then called for a cease fire and hollered out a bargain to the others saying they could avoid dying in a gunfight and take the body for food. That's a pretty good deal, the cannibals get compensated in food and can always go look for the victims later.
