The worst part of Reagan's legacy is what led to the Bush II presidency and its actions in regards to war. All the right-wing remembers about Reagan is his saber-rattling in his first term, forgetting how they and their predecessors went nuts when Reagan actually realized what nuclear war would mean and started TALKING to the Soviets.
The right was ready to crucify Ronnie until the USSR collapsed. Unfortunately, they (or at least, they rally their base with this idea) claim that it was the saber-rattling that "won" the cold war, which led to the Bush views on negotiation/diplomacy best done as if one were John Wayne.
