Except this was designed with "how do we convince black girls to buy everything from the Disney Princess line" from the very start. So it's not so much "being cool" as "being a target demographic left underexploited"

RocketBlender - 2009-10-06 First they were agahst because the princess worked as a maid, so that got changed. Then they were pissed by her name, "Maddy", being close to a racial slur. Last I've heard of it involved lots of outrage over the fact that the prince was not black as well. I would say the only way to make this movie without someone saying it's racist would be to just not make it, but chances are they've already been labeled racist for not making it sooner, so yeah.
