Fun fact: As part of the toy development process they actually throw toys from high places to see how they break. It's called "drop testing." Toys that represent flying characters have more stringent drop tests, entirely because kids are prone to throwing them down the staircase.

Time Travel Mishap Nintendo also does this with all of there systems. And not just the hand held ones. as far as i know microsoft or sony have never tried to make sure there systems could survive a fall.
