QT made Jackie Brown in 1997. Kurosawa died in 1998. After that it's just been downhill.

Seriously though, yes. I just watched Ikiru again the other day and the fact that a movie about a man dying slowly of stomach cancer is one of the best feel good movies ever is a testament to how damn great Kurosawa was.
