You could claim that Letterman is tooling for NBC in this clip and you'd probably be right. You could also say he's just trying to keep the job he fought hard to get.
I don't think it can be denied that through this toolishness, Letterman provided a way for people he perceived as talented to access a bigger audience; people like Harvey Pekar, Chris Elliot, and Larry 'Bud' Melman (you know he was funny).
That being said, 5 because ultimately, I side with Pekar and am happy he was able to deliver his message to a nation wide audience.
