Because there really aren't enough affable and sympathetic atheists on Youtube. Also he's just like a character from one of his books. And when he has a senile moment, he fills it with a joke.
He seems like one of the wizards doesn't he? I'm not making a comment on his beliefs but he sounds like he's had more than one glass of wine.

I think it's risen apes & fallen angels, not rising. It's in reference to a great lecture by Andy Thompson. Worth a listen to.
