He has to be laughing inside.
Based on everything he has said about performing classical music, this hasn't to be an inside joke.

I'm pretty sure that he had Asperger's.
I didn't put that in the tags, cause I'm sure that some nimtwat would auto 1-star it, but everything about Glenn Gould screams Asperger's.
On an unrelated note, I love the camera change right before 4:00. It makes me think that the editor was trying his hardest to obscure Gould's spastic fist-pumping, and that makes it all the funnier.
Also, once again unrelated, Gould had some long-term lover. I don't know her name, but I remember reading once that she fervently defended Glenn's performance in bed, during an interview. She was all like, "Glenn was a MAN! People think that because he was so strange that he was asexual, but BELIEVE ME, he was a sexual entity!"
I'll see if I can find it.

Lauritz Melchior - 2010-01-01 That was easy:
"But I assure you, he was an extremely heterosexual man. Our relationship was, among other things, quite sexual."

He does seem to scream Asberger's, but a very unique form of it. He did catalog every pill he ever took in a pill journal.

It's like he is in some sort of rhythm trance.

Glorious, especially the parts where his sings along (I'm pretending).
|
Lauritz Melchior - 2010-01-02 You're not pretending. The sound editors just did a really good job of blocking his voice out on this take.
I'm serious!

Beautiful, this is important.

His dad made the chair for him when he was younger. Gould famously used it well into his adulthood, for which some blame arthritis and other health problems.
