They are way too okay with this decision to be good parents. There should be at least some sort of reservation on their part, even if they do end up acceding to her wishes.
Disaster
There could have been a lot more going on behind the scenes. They're obviously not going to have a huge family discussion about it on the news. Hearing that you child wants to die is not easy to hear I imagine. Unless you're an abusive jackass but the other kids seem well adjusted enough.

pastorofmuppets
She's a 13 year old girl. In a week she'll probably feel the opposite. Her parents whole job is to say "you don't know what the hell you're talking about." What's going on behind the scenes is they want to spend that money on a sweet ride.

Riskbreaker
What pastor said, and stars for that.

klingerbgoode
should be covered by the NHS so it wouldn't cost the family a dime.

unless you mean they want to spend the money they would've spent on feeding and clothing her on a sweet ride. which is probably the case too.

pastorofmuppets
Well I was being sarcastic. But I still think the proper response is, "You wanna die? I'll give you something to wanna die about!"

Hooker
It's hilarious when people make decisions on emotional stories they hear based on a minute of backstory.

pastorofmuppets
It's not hilarious, it's apropos. Plus I don't have kids, which means that I am very well equipped to say whether people are or aren't good parents.

Disaster
The fact that the board was getting ready to FORCE her to have the operation was just too much for me.
Smellvin
Don't be stupid. Faceless bureaucrats ALWAYS know best -- especially in highly personal matters.

she chose to live
pastorofmuppets
She knows about Texas, right? How it exists and all?

pastorofmuppets
That was mean.

Sacks5thAvenButt
eat my arse

pastorofmuppets
I sort of assumed you were from NY, actually. I'm pissed off about what's going on with the curriculum. Textbook makers cater to Texas and they know it.

Sacks5thAvenButt
Im from Texas, I just wanted to say arse

pastorofmuppets
Wow, unlucky guess then. I'm sorry.

Camonk
See this is what you get with socialized medicine! THIS IS ALL STALIN'S FAULT!
voodoo_pork
This is possibly the most depressing video on this site.
James Woods
Well, let's not go crazy. This definitely is depressing though.

The most depressing part is the parents. You can almost here the mother teaching her why it's better not to have surgery. "You're tired. Sometimes these surgeries don't work out, and then what? You'll just die anyway. You're just worn out, you know. You've had enough."

Actually, come to think of it, yeah this might be the most depressing video on the site.

James Woods
my grammar is depressing. hear^

Camonk
That's lexis, not grammar. Jesus Christ. At most it's syntax.

Nothing is more depressing than Korean oil lady.

This is up there, though. I'm glad she changed her mind.

Needs an "all part of God's great plan" tag
Gwago
Seconded. If we put our minds to it we can make this an active tag within a week.

I wanted to die before it was cool.

Governments/bureaucrats should not be able to force someone who doesn't want to go through with surgery/live in general. Even if it is some some snot-nosed preteen who doesn't realize that she has it pretty well off (insurance wise). I might be a little more sympathetic if her reasoning ran along the lines of "maybe it will give someone else with better odds a chance" but not her "I'm tired and have have to see a doctor every three months and swallow a handful of pills every morning."

Screw her and her sense of entitlement (if that makes sense). Also, her parents are stupid. And ugly. And are probably happy to be rid of her.

Oh, she decided to live? Hoo-ray. Another piglet suckling at the swollen teet of socialized healthcare. Why won't these people give up and die?
pastorofmuppets
- Not old enough to drink beer, but old enough to make the final call on a heart transplant
- 13 year olds having a sense of entitlement is surprising
- having a shitty lot and shitty parents means you deserve to die
- obligatory dismissal of social medicine

Are you trolling or did someone let you out of your cage?

Please act out your namesake, explodotron.
