From the NY Times:
"...Monkees' fans, who had little interest in the scary psychedelic dude who preceded their idols. Hendrix's riffs were drowned out by screams of "We want Davy!" Finally, Hendrix gestured obscenely, with words to match, and stomped offstage.
The Monkees sucked even on a camp level. Except for Stepping Stone.
Pleasant Valley Sunday and Door Into Summer are two of best sunshine pop tracks ever.
No, those songs are shit. Daydream Believer is ok bubblegum.

Things like this are useful antidotes to nostalgia. For example, in 1969, the year that Let it Bleed and Abbey Road came out, the #1 single in the US was "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies.
So blow me, Baby Boomers.
..The Archies were created by the same dude who started the Monkees, he fell out with the Monkees after they wanted to take control of their own careers.
He created the Archies to show that he could make a fictional group successful.
Fuck you. Without "Sugar Sugar" there'd be NO RAPPING JUGHEAD.
I, for one, shudder at the thought.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The Monkees. Two things that just do not go together.
Am I the only person willing to call Head terrible? Sure, a giant middle finger to Monkees fans is always nice, but not if I have to sit through hours of it.
