I wonder if the guy who played Torgo wondered about what kind of legacy he was leaving behind during the last moments of his life.
Innocent Bystander
IMDb sez:

"John Reynolds, who played Torgo, sustained permanent damage to his kneecaps because of the apparatus on them. It's believed that this damage occurred due to the device being worn backwards. He was constantly on painkillers until his suicide."

Even if it's not true I find it fitting.

Bob Guidry, Director of Cinematography for the movie, claims that Torgo (John Reynolds) had a troubled family/social life. This led to drug abuse, his LSD-fueled role in this movie, and eventual suicide via shotgun to the head on October 16, 1966 (before Manos premiered).

"He killed himself about six months after the movie was finished. John was a troubled kid; he didn't really get along with his dad, who was an Air Force colonel, and he got into experimenting with LSD. It's a shame, because he was really a talented young actor."

It's arguable whether the coathanger-and-foam leg riggings actually led to any permanent damage or further drug abuse. I'd say the real story is equally intriguing.

A song parody I don't hate? For sure, internet. For sure.

It was kind of a cool choice to try to sound like Don Henley and look like Torgo and not try to mix-and-match. Many people would have and it would have sucked.

CapnJesusHood
Yeah, and I was about to take away stars for the "slowly standing up" part but working the Torgo theme into the end of the song won them back.

I ran into this Torgo at Comic Con last summer and it was fucking awesome. He has a device in his coat that plays the Torgo theme on a loop.

He is appropriately creepy if you pose for a photo with him:

Someone's looking pretty SEXY there!

MaulLove
Torgo is totally sexy.

And in response to other comments, he usually does the voice:

Torgo and a balding NeverNude were the two most awesome costumes I saw at Comic Con.

Stopheles
Yeah, but his Torgo voice isn't all that great. Come on, Mike Nelson, step up to the plate and show the internet how it's REALLY done!

Might have worked better if he'd tried to sound like Torgo (i.e. sing in a jerky monotone), but Torgo's Theme means I must forgive all.
Stopheles
I don't know...I'm just not that impressed with this guy's Torgo impersonation (and yes, I know he's not really doing Torgo in most of this clip).

However, the inclusion of Torgo's Theme at the end was great.

I'll? PRO.bably end. up SEEing. the new? move-ie when. it hits. D? V. D.

I would enjoy further Eagles covers by Torgo.
Stopheles
"Hotel California" seems pretty obvious, no?
