If you're calm and non-aggressive and do whatever the cop wants, chances are you'll stand to win your court case for wrongful arrest and you may even get a settlement from the city.
If you act like an asshole, then the judge will likely not side with you.
You have Miranda rights - and whether you like it or not you have the right to remain silent. You have the right to an attorney.
Don't escalate a bad situation into something worse.

Jellyneck She shoved a cop as he was trying to restrain somebody. I don't see why anyone is surprised that this escalated the situation to the point where he felt like he needed to lash out to regain control. I'm no supporter of cops, but holy shit if I shoved a cop I would have to expect an ass beating is heading my way.
I saw the huge fagdance over on POE-N before I saw this video, and now that I've seen it I am of the opinion that everyone in the video is a moron and I do not find this punch to be shocking or surprising.

It surprises me there is a controversy at all actually. They were caught doing something illegal and when confronted over it, they blew off the police officer. When he tried to arrest one of the girls, she resisted, and her idiot friend tried to interfere. Somehow everyone is shocked she got punched in the face. In fact, he used heroic restraint not tazing either of them-- he should get a humanitarian award.

if you choose to enter as a third party in an altercation between a citizen and a police officer it would be safe to assume that the officer would act as if you were a legitimate threat, whether you were or not.
the thing that gets me is all these people standing around like they're proving something, if you want to get rid of corruption in the police force then dont stand up for some entitled' girls under a bridge, go out and get rid of the shit that necessitates a police force in the first place. human trafficking? whats that?

StanleyPain A lot of people, like me, aren't so much bothered by the punching so much as the situation leading up to that. Was it really fucking necessary to go through all of this? Arresting someone for jaywalking? That just reeks of a small-dick cop out out to start shit.

Normally, Seattle cops are out of line in these kinds of things. However, if I had to put up with what this cop went through, I would've tazed them both, then probably the guy recording...all while shouting "are you serious?!?!?" at him.

Please stop defending douchebags like this. There about a hundred better ways to diffuse a situation and "restrain" a 17 year-old girl besides punching her in the face.
